Our morning ride begins at the city center bike shop, heading towards Sangri village, a favorite of the Venetians during their occupation of the island in the 13th century. The village’s architecture differs from the typical Greek style, giving it a unique character. After exploring the village, we continue to the well-preserved Temple of Dimitra, built in 530 BC with Naxian marble, considered one of the best Greek marbles.
Next, we ride up to the Bazeos tower and continue to Damalas village to meet Manolis, the potter, who will demonstrate the art of pottery making. After this enriching experience, we ride to Chalki village, the former capital of Naxos in the 18th century, to wander around its narrow alleys and enjoy a coffee or drink while taking in the village’s refreshing breeze.
Finally, we head back through Potamia village, known as the village of rivers due to its abundance of running waters during the winter and spring seasons. The return trip is easy, mostly downhill, taking about an hour to reach the outskirts of Chora before cruising back to our bike shop.
