What secrets are etched into the landscape, remnants of ancient times? Observe the rock face inscribed with the words “ΟΡΟΣ ΔΙΟΣ ΜΗΛΩΣΙΟΥ” amidst the rocky terrain. As you catch your breath while ascending, pause to take in the breathtaking view of the Aegean Sea. This trek involves scaling the summit of Mt. Zas, the highest peak in the Cycladic islands, along the old footpath linking Agia Marina with the mountain’s peak. Along the way, we’ll encounter fascinating and rare species of fauna and flora while also enjoying unique vistas of the Aegean Sea and the surrounding islands. The trek is moderately to highly challenging and lasts three hours, plus a two-hour drive. The distance covered is 5.6 kilometers, with an elevation gain and loss of 662 meters, respectively. The maximum gradient is 38.3% (ascending) and 53.8% (descending), while the average gradient is 16.3% (ascending) and 17.8% (descending). The hike is recommended for all seasons, excluding very windy days. On hot sunny days, it is recommended to begin the trek early in the morning. Please note that sturdy hiking shoes, a hat, and a backpack are strongly advised.
